Design a Piano

Unleash Your Creativity on a Musical Canvas

Have you ever wanted to combine your creativity with a powerful community message? The Design a Piano initiative invites artists, not-for-profit organizations, community centers, advocacy groups, and passionate individuals to transform pianos into vibrant public art and platforms for expression, storytelling, and awareness.

Whether you’re an artist, a local organization, or a group of people united by a cause, this is your chance to communicate something meaningful and bring it into the heart of your community.

Who It’s For

  • Artists looking to showcase their work in a public setting.
  • Community organizations & not-for-profits sharing a message or mission.
  • Health, social, or cultural initiatives that deserve broader awareness
  • Neighbourhood groups or individuals wanting to reflect community identity or express gratitude, remembrance, hope, or joy

This is an opportunity to say something real, and for everyone to see it.

Simplicity is Powerful

Designing a piano doesn’t have to be complex to be beautiful or meaningful. Some of the most impactful pianos have been created through simple, creative approaches:

  • Painting the piano a single bold colour with meaningful vinyl lettering
  • A bright base colour with children’s handprints or finger painting
  • Using fabric, tiles, or mixed media to add tactile or thematic elements
  • A spontaneous, expressive look using drip or splatter painting in the style of Jackson Pollock

There’s no single right way to do it. Your message and your creativity define the result.
The design is only limited by your imagination.

How It Works

  1. Submit Your Design
Send us your concept! We’re looking for designs that reflect your story or the message you want to share, whether it’s artistic, cultural, emotional, or cause-based.
  2. Selection Process
Our committee reviews submissions and selects projects that are bold, inclusive, and well-suited for public display. If selected, we’ll match you with a piano and schedule your painting time.
  3. Bring It to Life
We’ll provide the materials and a dedicated workspace; you bring the vision. When you’re finished, your piano will head out into the world to become a piece of living, interactive art.
